John Harvey | Week 9 | Call me Prometheus | Postmortem at bottom

WEEKLY NARRATIVE

This week was spent mostly Re-uving models I created to fit the new gradient texture style. The problem with this is not all models can fit that style so some were left the same. I also warped the rest of these models which is always fun you get some unique forms.

After this I went back and cleared the outdated info on these models from the AssetList as well as re-populating it with relevant info.

Got 4 playtesters in, Library seems a little tight. I don't know might just be a camera issue.

Sunday, I spent 2 hours creating a pretty sweet fire effect for our fire place, i'll show this down below.

CONTENT WITH HOURS

  • Re-uving & Warping (2.5 hours)
  • AssetList (.5 hours)
  • Playtesting (1.5 hours)
  • Fire Particle (2 hours)
  • Blog (.5 hours)

WORKFLOW EXAMPLES

POSITIVE OUTCOMES

  • My assigned tasks were completed
  • My maya wasn't actually broke it was just a new way of Uving

NEGATIVE OUTCOMES

  • Gradient UV doesn't work for every model we have and the switch happened halfway through.

POSTMORTEM
  • Reviewing my Performance
    • Excellent -9.8/10
      • + All tasks I was assigned got completed and then some.
      • + Continual updating of my Assets on the AssetList (including custom pages)
      • + Followed workflow
      • Continual updating of time estimates
      • 80~ separate assets created (models/Assetpages/particles) this quarter.
      • - frustration when others aren't doing the same
  • Things that went right.
    • Tasks got completed
    • If a model needed to be passed, it got passed and completed
    • Had enough work to do throughout the quarter
  • Things that went wrong.
    • Communications with Design dept. & my Dept. was at times like pulling teeth.
    • When the group got bottle-necked instead of holding people accountable, it seemed like the issue was being avoided.
    • While I really like the Gradient texturing, it was set that we were doing flat shading in the beginning. Being told (while a minor inconvenience) Week 8 that we are switching styles with 2 weeks left would be unacceptable I presume in a actual company.
  • Lessons learned
    • If you want to hold people accountable, you need to make sure your in a position to.
    • Low-poly effect can be difficult to pull-off at times.
    • Modeling is a lot less stressful than design, I like and don't like that.
    • My blog posts sometimes seem very weak despite the amount content I produced that week.
