WEEKLY NARRATIVE
Hey I'm TheAlphaMatt™ (now that we have two Matt's on our team). I am stepping into the technical director role again, which means I'm overseeing, integrating, and managing all the assets and scripts that are put into our game. Also as a lead level designer last term, as well as modeler and concept artist (to a small extent), I plan on pitching in where I can.
To change it up more this term, I plan on coding a lot more this term. We have 10 coders on our team, so I hope that I can explore Unity's particle and shader systems more.
Oh! Also this first week I worked a lot on the website. I've worked for two co-ops as a front-end developer, so as a mini-challenge I wanted to design and develop this website from scratch using Ember. I gave it a bit more love this week with the blogging system. Previously it was all kinda hard-coded in there. Now it's wired up to Blogger API, so that all 19 people can easily access, create and edit their posts. Oh and I added a tagging system to make navigation easier as the weeks go by.
CONTENT WITH HOURS
- Integrated Blogger API with the website (4 hours)
- Went to a full team meeting where we discussed overall flaws and ways we can improve Remembrance (2.5 hours)
- Went to a story meeting in which we discussed a revised story for the game and a more compelling direction to take the story in (5.5 hours)
- Fixed a few bugs and restyled the blogging system, as well as implement the tagging system.(6 hours)
- Updated Asset List, got everyone on Blogger, Created google form to create profiles for everyone on Website, as well as create time estimate chart for everyone to track their hours (2 hours)
WORKFLOW EXAMPLES
POSITIVE OUTCOMES
- It's the fun brainstorming part of the course, where scope isn't rearing its ugly head
- Successful (but maybe not the most beautifully) made a blogging system everyone can use
- Coordinated and collaborated with new teammates
NEGATIVE OUTCOMES
- Ended up doing a lot more work than intended
- Not many other people did tasks this week.
- Although blogging is now more so automated, I'm still somewhat of a filter.
NEXT TASKS
We're starting off this week with back to back meetings for level design, programming, then sprint planning. After that's all squared away (which is unlikely because we are a talkative/indecisive bunch), I will probably do more stuff for the website, update some of the documentation, and familiarize myself with the Unity project. I'm a jack of all trades, so I could be thrown on concept art, level design drawing/planning, or programming. We'll see after these meetings...
