X-Ray Level Design

WEEKLY NARRATIVE

This week I worked on creating the x-ray level design. This included the concept and creating the illustration of it. In my design I put a lot of thought into creating firstly a challenge for the newly acquired Dash ability, and secondly something that introduces the x-ray. In the x-ray part of the challenge I took our basic 3 rooms set up that we had in the previous x-ray tutorial, and then added more challenges after it. In this design it is more about moving forward in the level, than going to the memento and coming back. Through testing we will see what is more intuitive to the player. I'm curious if players will go back the way they came or go forward with the x-ray tutorial. Both are conducive to either style of play, so hopefully it's easier.

CONTENT WITH HOURS

  • Brainstorming and concepting the x-ray level (2 hours)
  • Creating the x-ray level in illustrator (3 hours)
  • Team meeting (1 hour)

WORKFLOW EXAMPLES

A Design for the x-ray level

POSITIVE OUTCOMES

  • Have a fully complete x-ray level that we can now play test in.
  • Followed a workflow for creating levels that is faster and easier

NEGATIVE OUTCOMES

  • I was very busy with other classes this week, so I didn't have much time for Remembrance this week.

NEXT TASKS

Next week I want to create more micro levels for the library. This includes testing out mechanics such as moving book cases, verticality, and platforming with the dash. I also want to play with the trail ability too.

TOTAL HOURS LOGGED THIS WEEK: 6 hours
